After giving up her title as a baroness in the realm that would one day be known as Renatus, Joss the elven rogue returned to Avondace to make a name for herself among the thieves of the Fanolanian capital. Her timing could not have been better as there was already change afoot among the ne’er-do-wells of this thriving metropolis and soon she had managed to carve out a respectable niche for herself and a handful of loyal followers. Using her considerable wealth and sharp intellect her ascent through the ranks of the shadowy underworld was more rapid than one might have guessed it would be.
When the current master rogue left Avondace to set up shop in the reconstructed capital of the Fourth Imperium, Joss quickly moved to take her spot. Securing it through clever politics on her part and through the deadly skills of her increasingly loyal and somewhat violent minions, Joss earned the nickname of “Rapide” for how quickly she made her decisions and carried out her schemes. Having remembered her previous life as a minor noble it was no problem at all for her to take on the guise of a Fanolanian notable of good standing and thus infiltrate every level of the nobility and upper classes of the merchants. Gathering information was always a goal, but so too was making money and keeping her enemies in check.
The greatest threat to Joss’ power and indeed to the power of the Fanolanian throne was the wily former head of the Avondace criminal world. Constant threats arose against Joss’ grip on her illicit empire even as threats were presented against the King of Fanolania and the head of the Fanolanian Church. The Fourth Imperium was doing all it could by every means possible to weaken the elven realm in order to assert its own authority. Realizing these devilish ploys, the King of Fanolania was in constant contact with Joss Rapide and her henchmen to try and keep the kingdom secure from the dangers that lurked in the dark. To her credit Joss never once failed her liege, and by her decisive actions proved that there is honor among thieves and those that have the faith to rely on them.
