After the Campaign: Selena, the Original Druid

Born blind and raised by the orcish shaman Brohka, Selena from an early age showed an innate knack for druidic abilities. Using the traditional shaman powers and combining them with the equally primitive and natural druid skills Selena was able to “see” the living essence of any plant, animal, or other life form. She joined the original adventuring group in order to bring a more balanced sense of power to central Partum. What she ended up doing was to help eliminate some of the more evil and disastrous entities that plagued the land.

Possessed of spectacular luck and good timing, Selena was able for most of her adventuring life to avoid being targeted by the Diosian Lodge lich known as the Viceroy. Unfortunately, her luck ran out and through the well-meaning bumbling of Nessa the bard she was finally marked by the Viceroy who took Selena’s essence in order to craft one of his “diabolique phantasms”, the foul Lyllyth. Unable to go toe-to-toe with the Viceroy’s masterful stroke of destruction, Selena instead retreated to a quiet grove of trees next to a small meadow atop a hillock in the eastern part of Maelonbourg. Here she transformed into a tree to avoid being further manipulated by the scheming lich. Most people assumed she had been killed or at least had fled even farther away to avoid the fate suffered by so many of the Viceroy’s opponents.

There was one person that knew where Selena was the entire time, though. Grendel, the orcish boy adopted by Xan and the heir to the archduchy had a peculiar knack for the same natural magics that serve as the base of shamanic and druidic power. He could sense the presence of Selena and respected her desire to be left as she was. In the meadow next to Selena is where Grendel fashioned the Draconic Idyll. As the most sacred spot for dragons to gather and commune Selena was able to interact with these magnificent creatures and lend even more power to their interactions. Now a permanent part of the forest she so loved, Selena would maintain her watch over the realm for centuries after the demise of the Viceroy who had plagued her so.
